Best Beaches in Zanzibar

Here is a complete list of the best beaches in Zanzibar, offering a true paradise with crystal-clear waters, white sands, and spectacular natural landscapes. Among all that Zanzibar has to offer, its stunning beaches stand out the most.

Kendwa

Kendwa Beach is one of our favorite beaches in Zanzibar, located in the northwest of the island. A true paradise with crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming, snorkeling to observe marine life, and sunbathing on its fine white sand.

Nungwi

Located in Zanzibar’s most touristic area, Nungwi Beach lies in the north of the island. It is very spacious, with crystal-clear waters, making it an ideal place to relax and stay in one of the many accommodations nearby. Here, you can enjoy unforgettable moments lounging in a hammock under a parasol, sipping coconut water while listening to music, watching the sunset, or dining on fresh seafood with your bare feet in the sand under the moonlight.

Nungwi is also the perfect starting point for various water activities such as snorkeling at Mnemba Island or scuba diving.

Jambiani and Paje

Located in the south of the island, these beaches are highly recommended, especially if you’re interested in activities like kitesurfing. There is a significant seaweed farming industry here, run by a women’s NGO that exports seaweed for cosmetics.

It’s a great spot to watch the moon rise at night and has several places to enjoy a lively nightlife.

Kizimkazi

From this southern beach, you can embark on the “Blue Safari” and the “Dolphin Tour”.

Michamvi

Located north of Paje, Michamvi is one of our favorite spots in the south of the island due to its tranquility and the stunning mangrove forest revealed at low tide. It’s a perfect place to watch the sunset.

Here, you can enjoy snorkeling in the “Blue Lagoon,” where colorful corals and vibrant fish steal the show.

Bwejuu

One of the best beaches in Zanzibar, Bwejuu Beach is on the east side of the island. We love it mainly because it is very peaceful, far from mass tourism, and offers a glimpse of young Maasai tribe members playing, walking, or fishing. It is possibly the most authentic beach in Zanzibar.

Pongwe

Pongwe Beach strikes a perfect balance between tourism and tranquility, making it a great option for accommodation during your trip. It boasts a vast stretch of fine sand and calm, transparent waters—an ideal retreat.
